What is astrology?
Astrology is an ancient practice that studies the position and movement of the planets, stars, and other celestial bodies and reads their influence on human life.
The core idea: the position and movement of the cosmos shape personality, behavior, and life events. It is a system woven from mathematics, astronomy, and philosophy — a rich tradition that millions still turn to for guidance today.
History of astrology
Astrology is roughly 4,000 years old. It developed in ancient Babylon, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, India, and China.
The 12-sign zodiac as we know it took shape in ancient Greece. Indian astrology — Jyotish — has its own thousand-year tradition that emphasizes the birth chart, dashas, and the influence of individual planets.
The zodiac and the 12 signs
The zodiac is the apparent path of the sun across the sky, divided into 12 equal parts. Each part is a sign.
Every sign has its own traits, strengths, weaknesses, and personality. The signs split into four elements: Fire, Earth, Air, and Water.

The planets and their influence
Every sign has a ruling planet that shapes its character:
How does a horoscope work?
Astrologers use your birth date, time, and place to build your birth chart. The chart shows where the planets stood at your birth and the relationships between them.
Daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly horoscopes read the current movement of the planets and their influence over the timeframe at hand.
Types of astrology
Western astrology
Built on Greek and Roman tradition. Uses a sun-based zodiac and focuses on personality.
Indian astrology (Jyotish)
Thousands of years old. Heavy emphasis on the birth chart, dashas, and the influence of individual planets.
Chinese astrology
Uses a 12-animal cycle, where each year is tied to a specific animal. Reads personality through your birth year.
